I grew up in a family of service
My father came to Arizona from war torn Eastern Europe as a teenager and chose to serve the United States as a Soldier, retiring after two combat tours in Vietnam and over 35 years in the US Army. My mother was a schoolteacher who dedicated her life to developing and educating the children of Phoenix. My older brother recently retired as a Deputy Chief in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, with over 30 years of service as a law enforcement officer. My younger brother is a Captain Paramedic in the Scottsdale Fire Department, and I chose to serve as well, serving over 34 years as a Marine and Army Aviator, flying thousands of hours and hundreds of combat missions in the AH-64 Apache on Active Duty, and as a proud member of the Arizona Army National Guard.
My wife Ana and I continually strive to serve as positive examples for our children. Ana worked hard to be the first in her family to graduate from college and has served our community as an employee of the Social Security Administration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and currently works to make the Nation safer in a federal law enforcement agency. Ana and I feel blessed that our children have chosen to follow our example and live lives of service as well. My oldest son Jesse chose to serve as a peace officer and is now an Arizona State Trooper. My next oldest, Jose served in the US Navy and is now using his educational benefits to study nursing. Mayra, my oldest daughter, is an Officer and Doctor in the US Air Force, and my youngest daughter Lillith is an eighth grader attending public school and preparing her path to serve as well.
